Arm Sleeves: The Ultimate Arm Protectors for Thin Skin

If you are living with thin or fragile skin and think that you need to change the way you live or dress because of it, think again: arm sleeves are here as the ultimate arm protectors for thin skin. Today, we are taking a look at what thin skin is, what causes it, and how arm sleeves are a must-have if you are looking for forearm protection for your delicate and fragile skin.

What Is Thin Skin?

Thin skin is skin that, due to numerous possible causes, has thinned and become fragile to the point that it easily tears, bruises, or breaks. Thin skin is actually very common and can be found in about 72 million Americans. It is found to be common among older adults and is prevalent on the skin of the face, hands, and arms. In the areas where the skin has thinned, you may be able to easily see the person’s veins, tendons, bones, or even capillaries under the skin. This, unfortunately, means that even the most minor bump or fall can cause long-lasting, painful skin tears, or bruises.

What Causes Thin Skin?

Our skin is made of several layers and among them, the dermis is the middle layer that is made of collagen and elastin and makes up about 90% of our skin’s thickness. Thin skin is caused by the thinning of this layer, leading to the loss in strength, flexibility, and elasticity to the skin. There are a couple of factors that contribute to this:

  • Ageing:
The dermis is made of collagen, however, as we age, our body produces less and less collagen. Due to this gradual decrease, our skin slowly loses its ability to repair itself. It also starts forming more wrinkles, sags more, and retains less moisture. Our genetics play a major factor in determining how much collages we lose as we age.

  • UV Exposure:
With many years of sun exposure, our skin starts getting sun damage. This results in damage to the dermis and leads to wrinkling, sagging, and thinning of the skin along with age spots. It’s not a coincidence that thin skin is mostly present on the face, arms, and hands: the three areas that are usually not covered by clothing. Using tanning beds also increases skin damage through UV exposure.

  • Medication:
The long-term use of some medication like topical and oral corticosteroids, over-the-counter aspirin, prescription blood thinners, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Aleve), have also been found to cause the skin to thin.

  • Lifestyle:
Premature skin ageing has also been linked to certain lifestyle factors such as alcohol consumption, smoking, lack of regular exercise, and dietary choices such as low intake of fresh fruits and vegetables but high consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates.

Why Arm Sleeves as Skin Protectors for Thin Skin?

Arm sleeves can be used as protection for thin skin without having to resort to more extreme solutions like micro-needling, fillers, laser treatments, or other similar procedures. It can also provide some additional benefits:
  • Protection from UV rays:
Arm sleeves serve as a barrier between the sun’s harmful rays and our skin, thus, successfully preventing the adverse effects of sun exposure. They can be used while gardening or even while doing indoor household tasks, which makes it much easier than adding an extra layer of clothing for sun protection. After all, we know that jacket only overheats your body while you are tending to your plants!

  • Prevents direct contact from harsh surfaces:
Arm sleeves add that extra layer of protection against the outer environment’s irritants and potential damage by acting as a barrier between thin skin and harsh surfaces. It can thus prevent forearm bruising and protect the skin from injuries such as abrasions, skin tears, and injury from impact with harmful encounters.  Once you have an arm sleeve on, you don’t have to constantly be hyper-conscious of your surroundings or access everything and the damage it may cause.

  • Protection for existent cuts and bruises:
If you already have a myriad of injuries on your forearm due to your thin skin, armwear can be a good solution for hiding them and covering them up while also giving them additional protection. So you can return to your favourite activities without worrying about your bruises or risking another abrasion.

  • The ease and practicality:
One of the best points about using thin skin protection sleeves is the ease and practicality that comes with it. Instead of wearing cardigans or outerwear all the time, and have to haul them around once indoors, you can opt for an arm sleeve instead. This gives you the flexibility of slipping your sleeve on or off anytime you want. Because sleeves are usually compact, you don’t have to worry about carrying an extra bulk with you.
Arm sleeves also give you the freedom of wearing clothing you already have instead of substituting all of them for a full-sleeved version. Let’s be honest, that cute dress doesn’t really come with full sleeves. We carry a range of stylish, fashionable arm sleeves that double as arm protectors for fragile skin. They are all made of breathable materials and stay in place without binding thin skin. We currently have thirteen different designs that come in a variety of colors and fabrics so you don’t have to worry about wearing an arm sleeve that looks like a medical brace! Combine function with style and protect your skin without sacrificing your skin health! Who said we can’t have it all?

If you have thin skin and are looking for ways to minimize its effects without having to go to extreme surgical measures, arm sleeves are a great solution. They provide ease, comfort, and protection without the added impracticality of outerwears. Safe to say, arm sleeves can act as amazing arm protectors for thin skin since they provide protection against the two most dangerous factors that cause such skin further damage: sun exposure and harsh surfaces, and that’s all we can ask for!
